The County of Newell is part of the Eastern Irrigation District, which encompasses 1.5 million acres of Southern Alberta farm land and conveys raw water to over 300,000 acres of land. The city of Brooks and town of Bassano are Newell’s two main regional centers. The Trans-Canada Highway and CP Rail main line run through the county, connecting it directly to Calgary, Medicine Hat and international markets.
